WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE WINE AND WHY? The Jackson Estate Gum Emperor Reserve Pinot series from 2005 thru 2011. As they showcase how vine-age, vineyard selection and soil type influence Pinot from Marlborough.
JOURNEY: My journey and interest in wine started in a shed on our childhood farm helping my Dad make a small amount of wine from the vines and fruit trees we had. I went on to complete a B.Sc. with 1st class honours in Biochemistry from Lincoln University, following this I worked in a Research Laboratory for several years. After deciding that it wasn’t quite the job for me I ventured out and completed my first vintage at Vavasour wines in the Awatere Valley and haven’t looked back. Before settling in Marlborough I worked several vintages overseas including the Okanagan Valley in Canada and Burgundy, France. On moving to Marlborough I began working for Jackson Estate at the start of 2010 and have now, after missing the wines and people re-joined the team.
INTERESTS: In my spare time I enjoy getting outdoors, whether it is going for a run in the Wither Hills, Hiking up one of the mountains surrounding Marlborough or spending the afternoon in our sea kayak fishing in the Marlborough Sounds. I also love great food and wine.
JOURNEY: My first introduction to the wine industry was working at Vavasour wines for their first two vintages 89-90 when it was the only vineyard-winery in the Awatere valley. At this time I was also helping to develop the Homestead vineyard on Jacksons Rd.
INTERESTS: When I have spare time outside of work and two sport mad teenage kids, I like nothing more than a back country Mountain bike adventure or hunting.
JOURNEY: Early mid life crises change of career from wine enthusiast plumber to full on wine nut. Wine career began with Wellington’s fine wine specialist retail / wholesaler, Regional Wines & Spirits, where I held a number of positions, shop boy, retail manager & stock purchaser. Moving further up the supply chain to purchaser logistics coordinator at Eurowine.
INTERESTS: Love working with wine…am quite keen on craft beer too. Great to live amongst Marlborough’s vineyards with our Lab X & Fox Terrier who enthusiastically chase the rabbits. Recently rejoined the motorcycling fraternity & keen to explore the South Islands back roads.
