Jackson Estate has now formally announced the construction of a new winery and cellar door. This will be the first time JKE has had a cellar door and we’re all very excited about the premise of it. The project is a very unique, one of a kind in Marlborough. With a capacity of just 250T and 52 tanks we’re continuing our goal of creating boutique, premium small-batch wines made specifically for wine lovers.
Pinot Noir will make up the vast majority of this winery and has been set up and designed for hands-on, small-batch winemaking. JKE will also make the Shelter Belt Chardonnay and Grey Ghost Sauvignon Blanc at the winery as these are hand-harvested, barrel fermented and require that extra care and attention.
Designs for the winery and cellar door will epitomize the ethos behind Jackson Estate; modern pioneers, where traditional and modern values and processes harmonize into one. Drawings have been finalized and landscaping envisioned, and everything is falling into place.
Vines in the vineyard have been cleared, leaving a void outlining the winery foot print. Tall and established trees from the other side of the vineyard have been packed up and taken to the winery site and planted for landscaping.
It may not be the common order to do things, starting the landscaping before building, but to save and keep these beautiful trees was paramount.
We will be breaking ground in the next couple of weeks; once this happens it will be a continual flow of movement.
Different teams of people and services will all collaborate to bring all the pieces of the puzzle together in a definitive sequence. Keep checking in on these blogs posts and follow us on social media to see our progress as it happens.
