On February 24th 2016 the Jackson Estate team set out on a two day trip to the Bay of Islands.
A cyclone had just passed through Fiji and was looking like it was going to hit the BOI while the team was there, almost shutting down the entire trip. Luckily, at the last minute, it bypassed us and we set off on our adventure.
The boat that that was used was called the ‘Belladonna’ and is owned by John Benton, and skippered by Todd Evers who also owns a local restaurant in the BOI called Alfresco.
The event was held to give those involved a memorable experience with JKE and JKE wines, showcasing them in a magic setting.
Chef Todd brought on board his creations of little bites/finger food to match with our current release wines, which we presented during the trip at different bays along the way.
On the first day we headed out through the Islands to the ‘hole in the rock’ and along the way we were joined by a pod of dolphins.
The wind was slightly stronger on the second day so we stuck mainly to the bays where it was calm and perfect to jump into the water and enjoy a swim.
At the end of each day we moored at Russell and had dinner at the wonderful Duke of Marlborough. The wines for dinner showcased some of our older vintages and cellar stock, listed below:
